Good Morning, Nico

.
I don't know how it happened that I totally side-stepped watching The Following - a serial-killer show from Scream writer Kevin Williamson! - but it did. And so I missed Scream 4 actor and gratuity recipient Nico Tortorella getting his gay on, as well. Should I bother watching the first season on DVD? Y'all let me know. Meanwhile I'll be over here, staring at these pictures and convincing myself of... something, or other. Hit the jump for nine more...

Steer clear. It's a terrible show. The gay subplot was one of the very very few saving graces mostly because, you know, hot guys kissing, but even that wasn't that good.

Do not under any circumstance watch this show. Bad acting, ridiculous plots and worst of all... BORING!!

I've enjoyed it. The plot has required an increasingly great suspension of disbelief, but I haven't missed an episode.

This show is wonderfully over the top. It's amazing how many plot twists they can pack into an hour. The villains are deliciously evil and the FBI can't be too happy about how dumb they are portrayed. Good trashy fun.

Watch only if you hate your tv and wish to destroy it in the most painful way possible.

Watch the pilot as it is actually a pretty effective subversion of the Scream DNA that I enjoyed, and then stop. I promise that every following episode is less and less satisfying. I stopped after about episode 8. It's not good.

I actually haven't been able to bring myself to watch Hannibal yet because The Following's general ho-humness made serial killer TV boring, and I needed a break from it.

Will h is correct. The Following is an effective pilot. Everything that follows is a case of steeply diminishing returns.

"The Following" has such a bad pilot. Parts of it were great but apparently the F.B.I. has never heard of putting people in a fucking safe house. Shit went down that wouldn't have gone done so easily had some people been put in a fucking safe house. The gay subplot was awesome and interesting, while it lasted. But since then, it's been a pretty bad show. Very promising premise but ultimately, a horrible execution. I'd say it's worth seeing only for the fun of hate-watching (and to see two dudes make out a couple of times).

Ooh, one more thing. The best thing about "The Following" is Nico Tortorella. He's finally proven that he's a good actor. I remember seeing him in the pilot and thinking, "Oh shit. This guy is fucking horrible. Why'd they have to cast him?!" He was easily the worst thing about "Scream 4". I'm very happy to say that he's stepped up his game on "The Following" and he's one of the only characters that I actually care about now.
