The International In 150 Words Or Less

.

Surprisingly meh. What have you done with Tom Tykwer, Tom Tykwer? Clive was good but Naomi Watts would've had more to do if she'd just stood in the corner of every frame filing her nails. By this time next week I don't think I'll really recall any of it, save maybe some flashes of the shoot-out in the Guggenheim and that's really just because of an excellent choice of location more than anything especially thrilling in what the sequence offered beyond that.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: These days foreign directors are moving to Hollywood too fast. Think of the likes of Tykwer or Gavin Hood (Rendition after Oscar-winning Tsotsi) and many others. And they don't seem like logical progressions either, especially in Hood's case.

"Back in the day" a director would just keep making movies in their home country until maybe they decided to make an American movie. Sometimes they ended up like Antonioni's Zabriski Point, sometimes it was Hitchcock's Laura, but they had mastered the craft back home away from prying studio hands.

ugh, pretentious wanky film rant over.
