No Gyllen-White Way Any Time Soon

.

Well, I guess my wallet is issuing a sigh of relief, even while my heart aches for a nightly Jake Gyllenhaal fix. From here:

"In mid-August, the New York Post’s Michael Riedel reported that Jake Gyllenhaal ... would be coming to Broadway in 2008 in a comedy by Beau Willimon called “Farragut North.” The article said that Mike Nichols would direct. Lemonwade has learned that Nichols will not be directing the play. For now, the production — with Gyllenhaal or anyone else — is on hold. And with Gyllenhaal’s film schedule filling up (he has just signed on to star in a love-triangle movie called “Brothers,” with Tobey Maguire and Natalie Portman), I don’t see him on Broadway anytime soon.

Gyllenhaal had done a reading of “Farragut North,” directed by James Lapine, and the play had been on the 2007-2008 schedule of New York’s Second Stage theater. The piece is a dark comedy about a hot-shot press secretary for a Presidential contender as caucuses commence in Iowa. Nichols, who is putting the finishing touches on his end-of-year movie release, “Charlie Wilson’s War,” will be back on Broadway in the spring, directing Odets’ “The Country Girl,” starring Morgan Freeman, Frances McDormand, and Peter Gallagher."

I guess I'll just have to break out my Brokeback Mountain Jack Twist action figure (with super-bottoming action!) and throw a snazzy little shirt and tie on him and act out scenes like they play in my head. Funny how Farragut North is pornographic in my head, isn't it? Funny... deranged... a thin line, people, a thin ass line.

I commented on this somewhere else, who the hell knows where, but I'll say it again: if Brothers is starting up in November, I don't see a conflict there. The play was supposed to run during the election season, I think, and IMDb has Brothers opening in 2009. There's plenty of gap there for a nice Broadway run before promotion would begin. I mean, I don't think they were looking at it turning into Cats. But I wish this lemon-y person had given us some backup for the statement about Mike Nichols being out. If true, it's definitely not a good sign.

P.S. Chin up, dear JA! Just get your TiVo ready for the magic that will be Rendition Week. ;)

Psst! Here I go again. Thought maybe this would cheer you up.

Variety: Jake Gyllenhaal flies to the 'Moon'

Unfortunately it also means that lemonhead dude was right. No way now there'll be time for the boards. But it gives me a chance to raise more travel funds for that eventuality.
