After official word of Nicole Kidman being cast as Mrs. Coulter in the film adaptation of the first book of Phillip Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy was released yesterday, I guess I can now hope for the dam to break and we'll continue to hear loads more casting happening (please, New Line, confirm Paul Bettany as Asriel!!!).
Here's our first step: Eva Green (The Dreamers, Casino Royale) has been cast as Serafina Pekula, which for those of you have read the book know as the main Witch of the story.
It has been a couple of years since I read the book but I do remember witches are not evil, per se, in the stories, and that Serafina fights alongside out heroes. The specifics of her part of the tale are fuzzy to me, though.
I really ought to go back and read the books, they're great fun and an easy read. Can't go wrong with that pairing.
