Compare (if you dare) her stomping with Ann Miller's incredibly artistic dance moves.wehobobhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06503225911869486507noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13372093.post-84215888733092855352013-02-20T09:53:53.719-05:002013-02-20T09:53:53.719-05:00Beat me to it, anon! Thanks for finding that link for me. :) As you'll read at the link, I totally loved Moreno, but had some lil' issues with the movie here and there.Jason Adamshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18254334131909339157noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13372093.post-2149457003589680612013-02-20T09:09:52.055-05:002013-02-20T09:09:52.055-05:00Scot: He already has. http://filmexperience.blogsp...Scot: He already has. http://filmexperience.blogspot.com/2008/03/mmwam-west-side-story.htmlAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13372093.post-7316706976097109252013-02-19T04:21:15.136-05:002013-02-19T04:21:15.136-05:00When you're fed up with all this stuff, chuck ...When you're fed up with all this stuff, chuck it all and go buy yourself a copy of West Side Story. Really, there is no better musical. Romeo and Juliet, with singing and dancing AND Rita Moreno. Russ Tamblyn was at his hunky best in this movie.Scotnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13372093.post-67319872304865609062013-02-18T23:18:34.187-05:002013-02-18T23:18:34.187-05:00Joan Blondell rules Ruby Keeler drools.Joan Blondell rules Ruby Keeler drools.Bradnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13372093.post-85300300440449607562013-02-18T20:58:54.912-05:002013-02-18T20:58:54.912-05:00I'm glad you brought up Joan, Joel, because I ...I'm glad you brought up Joan, Joel, because I realized after writing this that I hadn't mentioned her - I LOVE Joan Blondell and was sad when saw she wasn't in this movie, she's who I'm always looking for to counteract the Keeler-ness in this these things. I have seen most (definitely not all) of Gold Diggers of 1933 and I like it very much and out of all the Busby spectacles that I've seen I think it's easily the best. Apparently behind the scenes she was a sweetheart and obviously a woman of great patience since she was able to stand being married to Al Jolson, a vicious, violent egotist for several years. That doesn't make watching her any easier though!

Ginger Rogers and Una Merkel were the MVPS here without question since this is the one Berkeley musical that Joan Blondell, a great under appreciated talent, wasn't cast in.

Speaking of the great Miss Blondell her big closing number for Gold Diggers of 1933 is a bit of awesomeness that may be one of the most nihilistic pieces of music ever, let along to end what was up to that point a peppy musical. There's a clip of it on youtube.joel65913https://www.blogger.com/profile/14526657073681774683noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13372093.post-82856374812015681712013-02-18T16:09:47.990-05:002013-02-18T16:09:47.990-05:00I could never understand how she became a movie st...I could never understand how she became a movie star...can't really sing, can't really dance, not really very pretty....I've seen a number of old musicals with her and as far as I'm concerned, she was the weak link in all of them!HyperionCTnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13372093.post-20117090373365561162013-02-18T15:15:05.581-05:002013-02-18T15:15:05.581-05:00That last pic sums up how I feel about 42nd Street...That last pic sums up how I feel about 42nd Street.
