God Said Ha Jung-woo

.
Leave it to me to populate a post on a lesbian story with dude pictures. To co-opt an Ian Malcolm phrase, I will find a way. Anyway great news out of South Korea... well actually out of Japan. South Korean filmmaker Park Chan-wook, the director of the famed Vengeance trilogy, last seen posing Nicole Kidman in a blue cocktail dress in Stoker, is at work on his next movie! It's called Fingersmith and it's an adaptation of Sarah Waters' Victorian-era-set 2002 book by the same name. Here's how Amazon describes the plot:

"Sue Trinder is an orphan, left as an infant in the care of Mrs. Sucksby, a "baby farmer," who raised her with unusual tenderness, as if Sue were her own. Mrs. Sucksby’s household, with its fussy babies calmed with doses of gin, also hosts a transient family of petty thieves—fingersmiths—for whom this house in the heart of a mean London slum is home.

One day, the most beloved thief of all arrives—Gentleman, an elegant con man, who carries with him an enticing proposition for Sue: If she wins a position as the maid to Maud Lilly, a naïve gentlewoman, and aids Gentleman in her seduction, then they will all share in Maud’s vast inheritance. Once the inheritance is secured, Maud will be disposed of—passed off as mad, and made to live out the rest of her days in a lunatic asylum.

With dreams of paying back the kindness of her adopted family, Sue agrees to the plan. Once in, however, Sue begins to pity her helpless mark and care for Maud Lilly in unexpected ways...But no one and nothing is as it seems in this Dickensian novel of thrills and reversals."

And seeing as how everywhere else tosses the words "lesbian" and "erotica' into the ring I think we can tell where things are going. Anyway DH shares the news that Park started filming last week in Japan (I wonder why he's filming in Japan?) and the film will star Kim Min-hee and Kim Tae-ri as the two women (not sure who's playing who as IMDb doesn't have much info for this movie listed yet) while the role of Gentleman (love the name) will be played by Ha Jung-woo.

(God I love this photo-shoot so much. Grapes! Guns!) Anyway Ha Jung-woo is the only actor of this trio that I'm familiar with - he starred in The Yellow Sea and The Chaser, two pretty terrific action flicks directed by South Korean director Hong-jin Na and which have both gotten released here in the US. He's a good actor, from what I've seen. But the big draw is of course Park Chan-wook. We'll follow him anywhere.
