I hadn't really been paying much attention to the upcoming retrospective of 70s softcore skin-flicks by director Randy Metzger that's hitting the Film Society of Lincoln Center next week because when I think of 70s softcore skin-flicks (say that ten times fast) I think of naked ladies first and foremost and naked ladies - though certainly fine, perfectly fine, more than adequate even, in their way! - don't really grab hold of me. I'm sure you're flabbergasted by that statement. Thing is, what a wanker I am - when I was at FSLC the night before last for that John Waters & Isabelle Huppert event the preview for the Metzger event made it clear - there are plenty of dudes being exploited up in these movies too! As you can see up top - that shot, which I judiciously edited to make my point, is of Nino Castelnuovo in Camille 2000, one of the skin-flicks they're showing; you might recall Nino as the quite gorgeous leading man in The Umbrellas of Cherbourg? We're a big fan anyway.
So once I had this realization I went looking at the other flick they're showing - the one called Score sounds and looks promising on the guy front, too. They describe it as basically a porny version of Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, if Richard Burton had paired off with George Segal while Liz scissored with Sandy Dennis in another room. Only with people you'd actually want to watch have sex instead.

The lead actor billed as "Calvin Culver" in the film is better known by his nom de porn: Casey Donovan. He was probably the first great porn star after the censorship laws collapsed in the 60s and 70s.
He taught at a private school in NYC, appeared in minor roles on Broadway, and starred in Boys in the Sand, which was one of the breakthrough porn films, in 1971.
He had an affair w/Tom Tryon for a few years in the 70s, then opened a B&B in Key West.

There are two versions of Score. Find the Good one. I've seen both. Had downloaded the Uncut one and when I bought the DVD deleted it and... fuck the DVD was the cut one which doesn't show actual sex. Couldn't find the uncut again :( In the uncut there is unstimulated gay and lesbian sex. Fun movie as well as sexy.

I've never heard of Score, but there is an uncensored version on Blu-ray. I now feel compelled to check it out.
You should also check out The Lickerish Quartet. That's one skin flick that does its job quite well!
They all promise more than they deliver. SCORE is a bore. Casey Donovan was cute but the other guy is gross and the women act like they are in BEYOND THE VALLEY OF THE DOLLS. Really don't bother - rent a 70's porn instead
Score is actually based on the play Score written by Jerry Douglas who went on to become a quite successful porn director on his own. I saw the play Score back in the 70's when it was playing Off Broadway. Lots of nudity and simulated sex in the play but most notable for a character called the Telephone man who has sex with the leading lady in the play. The actor appeared totally nude and went on to become quite famous in his own right. That actor was Sylvester Stallone.
The version of Score that I saw in the movie theatres had erect penises and a masturbation scene with Cal Culver.
I found and watched 'Score' on Sunday, inspired by this post, and I ended up really enjoying its arch, campy trashiness, so thank you. Even the dialogue scenes I thought were fun in a stilted but witty way. And unlike Kelley, I also thought the guys were pretty hot, not just the blond Casey/Calvin but the darker-haired, more 70s-style hirsute gentlemen. À chacun son goût. The version I saw was pretty darned graphic, only the intercourse seemed simulated, the blowjob/handjobs clearly were not. I recommend for the sheer cheerful sleaziness of it.
Yeah, Score is pretty hot considering. Also, it features an actual penis going into an actual man's mouth and the fact that the penis and mouth in question belong to two quite attractive gentlemen does not hurt either.
