I Am Link

.
--- Hard Japan - I think we first heard about this a couple months ago but now there's word that Takashi Miike's yakuza flick with Tom Hardy has gotten the cash to get made, and they'll film it next year. What took so long? I would've sent twenty bucks if I knew it was being held up.
.
--- Flood Cometh - Reports are coming out that Darren Aronofsky's having trouble with the studio about his cut of Noah. Apparently it's not wholly pleasing to Jesus-freaks, which is a group the studio was counting on being able to court. If you fuck up a Darren Aronofsky movie I swear to Christ that'll be the last straw, Christians.

--- Queer Bait - The Guardian takes a look at how gay movies are started to be marketed differently to mainstream audiences - namely, that they're making it more obvious that hey, this movie's totes gay, people. There's a lot of talk of the French film Stranger by the Lake in here, which I saw at the NYFF and I am dying to see again. Incredible incredible unforgettable (and yes, very hot) movie.
.
--- His Chance - Nikolaj Coster-Waldau is teaming up with the wonderful Danish director Susanne Bier for A Second Chance, which is described as a "tale that will explore how far human beings are willing to go when tragedy blurs the line between the just and unjust." Sounds cheery. Good to see Nik getting all this serious work though, he is worthy.

--- City Boy - Director Steve McQueen, riding high on much much deserved plaudits for the phenomenal 12 Years a Slave, is going to make a series for HBO his next project. HBO is really courting the high-rollers, eh?They desrcibe it as "Six Degrees of Separation meets Shame, " which well who needs more than that? Okay okay it's about a young black man (how will Michael Fassbender play that?) who gets himself all up in New York's high society, but he's not be who he pretends to be. It's from one of the co-writers of World War Z.

--- Rosemary's Year - The Supporting Actress Smackdown is happening at The Film Experience some time today and it's the year 1968 this go-around... which for me is really just about the super-deserving winner Ruth Gordon. Anyway as Nat does for these he put the year into context with this awesome post about the year 1968 - who was born, who was hot, so on.

--- Runner Runner - Our miniature boyfriend Danny Radcliffe is going to play a real-life Olympic runner from the 80s named Sebastian Coe, which just screams at me - Dan in short shorts! Dan in short shorts! I mean look at the picture of the real-life dude that The Playlist used and tell me you're not positively salivating about seeing Dan in them things.

--- Dead Projects - The director of the pretty-good-said-me Evil Dead remake, who just said the other day that Sam Raimi is indeed going to make Army of Darkness 2, has now come out and said that he himself is not going to make any sequel to his remake. There had been talk of an Evil Dead 2 and an Army of Darkness 2 both being made and there being some overlap.

--- Hell No Dario - Have not read this yet but here's a new interview with Dario Argento over at AICN, now that his terrible terrible film Dracula 3D is rolling around the country, stinking up the place. Totally curious to hear what he has to say for himself. Methinks he must be straight-up delusional at this point, his film-making is so entirely inept. We weep for what was.

Aronofsky's Noah is a very interesting situation. DA always struck me as someone who would only make a movie based on a biblical myth so that he could subvert it and show just how ridiculous it is but after having seen the leaked trailer proudly proclaiming the film to be the story of "the greatest event to ever happen to humanity" I'm left a bit perplexed.

Maybe that's what all the studio discord is about, they thought he was making the next Passion of the Christ and when they found out he had ulterior motives, shit hit the fan.
