ParaNorman in 200 Words or Less

.
If I were upset about missing ParaNorman when it was playing in theaters here in NYC in its first-run (and I was) then I'm just plain ol' angry at myself now that I have seen it, because what the hell was I thinking, missing it? I should have run head over heels towards this movie. ParaNorman is a total delight from start to finish - I absolutely adored it. It brims with life - both the living and the dead kinds. I liked it much more than Coraline, which I had a fairly muddled reaction to (after loving Gaiman's book) - there's a clearer purpose here, and a lovely little message about not allowing your fears to change who you are that seems fresh and especially timely. And the visuals! I'd be even angrier at myself if I'd missed this in 3D (it screened at MoMA last night so I did get to see it on a big screen); it's some of the best I've ever seen. The textures and the colors and the design - they're all so rich and thoughtful and inspired. I can't say enough good things about this movie. A tricky treat!

(It's out on DVD and Blu now, buy it here!)

You know why this blog is great? Because you can read a review of a children's movie and then see a photo of a hot guy's ass. I love it! Keep up the good work!

It's precisely that sort of bipolar yo-yo thing that I'm going for, since it's the distilled essence of my head's insides - I'm glad you appreciate it, anon! ;)

Did you sob during the last 10 minutes or so like I did? Because holy shit, this movie got to me both times I saw it in the theater AND both times I watched it (consecutively) in my living room last night.

Yes I totally bawled, Jasper! It's tremendously moving; I was really surprised how effective it all becomes, emotionally.
