Next For PTA

.

After my successful premonition of a Jonny Greenwood Oscar-diss yesterday, my predictions lost traction come this morning... Joe Eszterhas didn't shove Kathy Bates into a row of folding chairs and torch himself in the name of scribe-solidarity, unfortunately... and my favorite movie of 2007, There Will Be Blood, picked up eight nominations, tying with the Coens' No Country For Old Men for the lead (if you want serious Oscar discussion, you'll head to Film Experience of course). That tally included Best Picture of course, and Best Director for Paul Thomas Anderson, his first such nomination.

But what news of Anderson is really grabbing me by the horns this morn? This vague nugget from BD:

"This is quite possibly the biggest news we've ever reported in the history of Bloody-Disgusting. We learned from a well-trusted insider that the brilliant Paul Thomas Anderson - who is looking like a solid contender for an Oscar with his astounding film There Will Be Blood - is seriously contemplating making his next project a HORROR film. As of right now the project is just a thought that has yet to be put down on paper, but hopefully in the next few months or so a decision will be made. Spread the word and let him know you want to see it! Anderson has directed such classics as Boogie Nights and Magnolia. B-D will be rooting for Anderson as this year's Academy Awards (assuming they happen)."

I'm going to hold off on, ya know, rupturing my insides with ecstasy here, seeing as how this news is far from... anything. Just a "well-trusted insider" and "horror" doesn't equal a lot... hell, from certain angles There Will Be Blood could be considered a horror film; Daniel Plainview certainly turns himself into a monster. And nothing Mr. Anderson does is exactly straight-forward, so I doubt we'd see him craft something entirely of my favorite genre.

But still. Mind reeling with possibilities.
