They're Here... Again

The "they" in that title being the morons who can't think up a new idea to save their lives, of course. From BD:

"We've been reporting here for months that a remake to Tobe Hooper/Steven Spielberg's Poltergeist was in the works, we even went as far as to report that Mandate Pictures was attempting to acquire the remake rights to the franchise (read more here). We can now 100% CONFIRM - without a shadow of a doubt - that Mandate Pictures will be producing the remake for MGM. This is a fact, this is done, this is not speculation ... The remake won't happen until post-strike, so watch for news in 2008."

I love that this can't happen until writers stop striking. Because we need the writers so they can regurgitate more recycled crap upon us! That's what writing is all about, after all! That's what they're fighting for! Sigh.

My thoughts wander to whom they could possibly hire to recreate the role of Tangina, indelibly originated by Zelda Rubenstein. Maybe Paris Hilton?

Okay, so, who the hell is it that keeps paying money to go and see all these shitty remakes, anyway? If we stop them from buying tickets, do you think the industry will catch on?

Um, not that its being a remake is going to stop me from going to see Jake in Brothers, mind you...but that's a special situation. Jake gets a pass no matter where the script came from.

Funny you've got a Donnie banner up now. I just watched it for the first time in months this weekend. :)

The Donnie banner's in honor of Southland Tales opening here in NYC tomorrow. Yay!

I don't think they'll ever catch on. The name = an easy sell, and that's what matters to them. It's product, not art. I guess we just need to hope that they'll learn to do something interesting with these things. Sigh.
