Gratuitous Weekend

Looking through the huge number of movies opening this weekend, I noticed something. And it's a something I often notice, so it'll fit right in round here. There's a veritable smörgåsbord of manliness at a-theater-near-you suddenly. And hell, tis my duty to document such an occasion, right? Let's see who /what we got... (gotta start with my sweetheart of course....)

Rendition

Jake Gyllenhaal

Peter Sarsgaard

Reservation Road

Mark Ruffalo

Weirdsville

Scott Speedman

Wes Bentley

30 Days of Night

Josh Hartnett

Ben Foster
(I'm sorta obsessed with Mr. Foster, post-3:10 To Yuma)

My apologies to Joaquin Phoenix, Casey Affleck, Will Arnett, Benicio Del Toro, and Danny Huston, all of whom have their admirers... this post just got too big! And I HAD to include that ridiculous picture of David Duchovny.

Shit, you think that picture of Duchovny is ridiculous? Have you ever seen the teacup picture? Love that man, but, well, live long enough and we all do things we regret.

Thanks for showing some love to Peter, too! And then there's that Gooberballs guy, he's all right, I guess. ;) Seriously, I am in such anticipation of Jake's opening scene in Rendition it's a wonder I haven't slid out of my seat here. You know you're in for something when male talk show hosts randomly admire Jake's abdomen.

Heh, yeah, I've seen the teacup pic, too. I almost included it but, well, there's only so much Duchovny-ridiculousness I could stomach in one post. Seriously, what was he thinking with some of those photo-shoots he did back in the early Nineties?

Gooberballs! Who was talking about his abdomen? I'm still playing catch-up with all the talk shows I've Tivo'd that he did this week. Yay shirtless Gyllenhaal!

The ab-preciation was from the UK's Jonathan Ross. Two-part video here and here.

"Gooberballs" reference will become clear upon viewing Letterman. You must catch up, JA! Don't tell me you haven't watched his visit with Ellen yet, either?! He cooks for her. Jesus Christ, it's as hot as it sounds, too.

I've watched Letterman, Conan, and Regis/Kelly so far. I started watching Ellen, and as a preview they showed the clip of him cooking for her and I passed the fuck out. Seriously. Okay, I didn't really, but I stopped watching it at that moment because I could tell I was going to want to pay attention and I was distracted right then. It seemed like a moment to savor. I'll give it its due respect tonight.

I saw Gooberballs on The Daily Show this week, and to my horror I found out he's a Red Sox fan and thus cannot ever be my boyfriend. This has been a terribly upsetting week for me. Now I know how Ellen's been feeling about that dog.

I knew there was one I was forgetting. I watched The Daily Show, too. It seems odd that he's a Red Sox fan, doesn't it? I dunno.

Damn, what is it with the baseball fans? Sounds like Yankees lovers are clearly insane, as anyone would have to be to consider his team choice an impediment to happiness with The Gyllenhaal. You're the second--no, the third!--one I've heard say it. What kind of tolerance is that, huh? :)

JA, Jake's family has close ties with and has summered on Martha's Vineyard all his life, and he probably has lots of friends there.

Don't ask me why I know these things. I don't like to think about it.

Being a Sox fan isn't just about who you like. It speaks to who you are as a person. Believe me, I'm as sad about this as he must be.
